He had been “severely physically assaulted and seriously injured,” Garda inspector Aidan Glacken told a news conference in Sligo. The suspect was arrested in the town of Sligo around 1.45 am. on Wednesday. Mr Moffitt’s body was discovered at his home in Cartron Heights around 8:30 p.m. Monday. He had also suffered “significant bodily injuries,” Gardai said. Mr. Moffit worked in the property sector and was a peace commissioner for his area, as well as a Fine Gael activist.
