According to Steam’s official figures, on its release day the indie title currently has the maximum number of concurrent players at 62,963. Only 12 games are being played by more Steam users at the time of publication, including free-to-play Apex Legends and AAA titles like FIFA 22 and Grand Theft Auto. According to independent market analyst Benji-Sales, Stray has comfortably surpassed Annapurna’s record for concurrent players on Steam, previously held by Twelve Minutes with 8,021. Behind it are Outer Wilds (7,936), Neon White (3,277) and Journey (1,757). Note: To display this integration, please allow the use of Functional Cookies in your Cookie Preferences. Developed by small French studio BlueTwelve, Stray was released today for PS5 as well as PC. The game costs £24.99/$29.99 on PlayStation Store and £23.99/$29.99 on Steam. Notably, it’s also available at no extra charge for subscribers to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers. VGC’s Stray review called it one of Annapurna’s best releases to date. He concludes: “Stray is a masterclass in environmental design, with one of the most fascinatingly detailed game worlds we’ve explored. Like its protagonist, it’s a bit short, but what’s here will stay with you for a long time. Essential.” Annapurna is set to host a product showcase on July 28, for which it has teased “reveals, announcements and more.” The critically acclaimed What Remains of Edith Finch could appear at the event, having recently been reviewed for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
