(Bay du Nord FPSO concept art, courtesy of Equinor.) A new Narrative Survey, conducted for the Canadian Petroleum Producers Association, finds that the majority of New Earth and Labrador residents involved support the Bay du Nord project. The survey was released shortly before the start of today’s Scotiabank 2022 CAPP Virtual Energy Symposium. The online survey, which involved 411 Newfoundland and Labrador residents, was conducted between March 16th and 21st. He found that eight out of ten – or 79% – of those who know the Bay du Nord express some level of support for the project, while only 7% oppose it. Sixty-eight percent of those surveyed expressed concern about the delay in federally approving the project. Eighty-five percent of respondents agree that provinces such as Newfoundland and Labrador can help Europe by providing reliable and ethically produced oil. CAPP President Paul Barnes says he is pleased with the results of the survey, which confirm what they already know about local support for the Bay du Nord. Methodology: These results are the result of a survey conducted by Narrative Research on behalf of the Canadian Petroleum Producers Association (CAPP). This survey was conducted online from 16 to 21 March 2022 with 411 New Earth and Labrador residents aged 18 and over who are members of an online general population group. Quotas and weights based on the 2016 Census, by gender, age and region, were used to reflect these population characteristics in the province. As a sample of probabilities (i.e., a sample panel where residents have joined a group to share their views) and in accordance with the CRIC Public Opinion Surveillance Standards, no margin of error applies.
