The news agency reported that the air defense was activated and intercepted some of the Israeli missiles over the province of Hama. He said the damage from the blows is still being assessed. Syria regularly claims to be blocking Israeli missiles, although military analysts are skeptical of such claims. As a rule, the Israeli army does not comment on specific strikes in Syria, but has admitted that it has carried out hundreds of strikes against Iranian-backed groups trying to gain a foothold in the country. It also says it is attacking arms shipments believed to be intended for these groups. Photos posted on social media showed large plumes of smoke in the area. While the alleged Israeli attacks in Syria are usually carried out under cover of darkness, Saturday’s strike took place around 6:45 p.m. while the sun was still out, according to SANA. The area around Masyaf, which is believed to be used as a base for Iranian forces and pro-Iranian militias, has been repeatedly targeted in recent years in attacks widely attributed to Israel. Western officials have long linked CERS to the manufacture of chemical weapons. According to the United States, sarin gas was developed at the center, a charge denied by the Syrian authorities. In early March, Israeli strikes near Damascus killed two officers from the Revolutionary Guards of Iran, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic. The Guards promised to avenge the killings and then launched a crackdown on what they claimed was an Israeli “strategic center” in the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan. Since the outbreak of the civil war in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes inside the country, targeting Iranian forces and allied terrorist groups in Iran, particularly along the Golan Heights border, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which has deploy fighters in southern Syria.
