For example, Tesla had prepared several unique screens for the event, including one that revealed 4680 production-grade battery components made in Giga Texas. Musk noted in his speech that Tesla’s Austin Gigafactory is ready to start production of 4680 cells and the production of vehicles at the factory is all-inclusive. Essentially, the factory is designed to provide every aspect of the production process under one roof. The text on the hanging metal plate above says: “Made in Gigafactory Texas, our new cell 4680 tables reduces costs per kilowatt hour. We have everything we need under one roof for the production and assembly of the first large-volume structural battery, using our fully integrated process. “The construction package significantly reduces the number of spare parts used in both the battery pack and the car, allowing our package line to be less than half the size of the previous factories.” Tesla promised the new 4680 batteries and the build package at the Battery Day event in September 2020. However, at that time, Elon Musk made it clear that the technology would not come soon. Some skeptics believe that technology is not monumental and that Tesla may find it difficult to enhance it. With supply chain conditions deteriorating around the world and automakers struggling to get battery life, it would be particularly encouraging if Tesla could do it all in time. At this point, it seems that Tesla has fulfilled its promises for Battery Day, and maybe even earlier than the schedule, but we have no idea how everything will turn out. Tesla must now prove that it can increase production in blisters and packaging and transfer them to Model Y production vehicles. The automaker has unveiled a Model Y Standard Range in Giga Texas built with the 4680s and the new package, though has not yet delivered such a vehicle. To be clear, there is currently no indication or evidence that Tesla is producing a Model Y crossover with the new battery technology, at least not for customers. Hopefully more details will become clear in the near future.
