Biden was motivated to run in large part because he saw himself as the best person to beat Donald Trump. He still sees Trump’s exit from the White House as one of his most important contributions to America’s well-being. And with Trump looming as the presumptive Republican nominee — now eyeing a September announcement — Biden argues he’s still in the best position to beat him. And if Trump is retained, it will be much easier for other Democrats to reach out to Biden to let someone else take on a younger Republican candidate.
