Wednesday’s episode of “This Is Us” marked the official end of Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby (Chris Sullivan), during which she officially threw in the towel after making a harsh remark about her late father. (Full summary here!) Instead of answering, Kate interrupted her son by shouting and when she returned, she told Toby that it was over. But that was not originally the plan. “I had like a whole monologue rebuttal to his remarks. “This dinner scene where they both try to rekindle the romance and figure out where each other is coming from – are those little fakes you cut into each other and eventually start bleeding,” Metz tells Variety. “There was a whole monologue that said, ‘I was this person before. “You could blame my dad and my relationship with him, but you can no longer do it and I will not allow it.” He went against him and I said, “Hell, I wish they had kept that.” “But it was not necessary because he said what he had to say, but it is difficult because you unfold and you can understand both sides.” Metz went on to explain that “no one is ever going to meet Jack,” something that has always been known. “Toby has insecurity around it, and then throwing it in her face is like an easy piercing, but it is also obviously very deeply embedded,” he notes, adding that it is devastating to see Kate and Toby collapse. “It simply came to our notice then. I think this is the hardest part – knowing it. They never stopped trying, or it was really difficult, to go through treatment and to communicate and talk about their feelings. They really tried. She absolutely adored and loved him, but she never put herself first “. During the episode, a flash forward to Kate’s wedding day shows that she and Toby are in a positive position, as they have decided to support their parents as best they can. “I think there will always be a true love for each other that will never go away. “When you love someone, I do not think you stop loving them if you truly love them,” he says. “She’s definitely in Pearsons life, she’s definitely still close and supportive, and she’s still something of a soundboard for her.” Chris Geere as Phillip and Chrissy Metz as Kate. Ron Badzdorf / NBC Since Kate and Phillip (Chris Geere) started out as colleagues and friends, their marriage will be very different from hers with Toby – especially since they were both straightforward and brutally honest from day one. In addition, thanks to the woman Toby encouraged Kate to become, she is in a better position for this marriage. “I like that he painted the boundaries after the first date. He says: “I need to know what is going on. You have to let me know what you do with me. ” It’s so hard to say that in a relationship. “We all want to be endorsed, loved and liked,” says Mets. “She is much more confident and self-assured than ever, and Toby has such an important role in it, which is so bittersweet.” Looking ahead to the next episode, the second day of Kate’s wedding arrives, which – like most episodes of “This Is Us” – is filled with “very beautiful” and some heartbreaking moments. “There are moments of a lot of fun, but also as we watch Rebecca decline, starting to get very difficult and emotional, especially at a wedding,” Metz teases, before adding that Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge) may appear for the big day. “Kate and she rekindled their friendship which is so much fun and wonderful. She is definitely invited. We will see who he will bring if he comes “.
