FDNY responded to three well fires after the Midtown blast at around 6:45 p.m. at 215 West 43rd Street between Times Square and 8th Avenue, fire officials said. By 9pm, firefighters had left the scene. Con Edison confirmed that the explosion was caused by a damaged cable. There were no customer interruptions and no property damage, the utility service said. The sounds of the explosion had terrified people in the area. The video, which was shared on social media, shows terrified tourists and locals leaving the scene as they try to understand what is happening. The area was temporarily closed as FDNY and ConEd investigated.
