CBS Philadelphia reports that the shooting took place outside the Eagle Save Mart in Chester on Tuesday. The family lives in the area and frequents the mini market. People nearby heard a shot through the vehicle, which was parked at a gas station. The 4-year-old girl was rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. Police did not identify the girl or boy, but NBC News Philadelphia Inquirer reported the children were siblings. The loved ones gathered outside the hospital on Tuesday afternoon waiting for information about the girl’s condition and were moved after the confirmation of her death by the officials, the station reported. Witnesses say the children’s father was outside the car when, according to officials, a 2-year-old boy was holding a gun in the car and it was unloaded. The bullet hit the 4-year-old girl who was also sitting inside. People at the scene rushed her to a hospital just half a mile from the scene. Witnesses affected by the tragedy say the children were always with their father. “It was a morning ritual, I saw them every morning,” said Theodore Thaddeus Crump. “He was a good guy. He went to work every day. He kept his kids by his side. He’s the number one thing he did, okay. Their dad was a very nice man.” The investigation is ongoing. Last month, a 3-year-old boy accidentally shot to death his mother as the family sat in her car in a Chicago suburban parking lot. According to data analyzed by the defense team Everytown for Gun Safety, so far this year there have been at least 51 unintentional shootings by children in the US, resulting in 17 deaths and 38 injuries. Last year, there were at least 379 involuntary shootings by children across the country, resulting in 154 deaths and 244 injuries, the organization said. Proponents of gun safety say the dangers of firearms need to be studied and treated like any other public health threat 09:32
