An off-duty Toronto police officer who was acquitted in a high-profile rape case in 2017 is now charged with physically assaulting a woman on Thursday.

In 2015, Kara was among three Toronto police officers charged with sexual assault following a complaint made by a police officer. Const. Photo STAN BEHAL / TORONTO SUN FILES A parking attendant – whose name is protected from posting – accused them of sexually assaulting her at the Westin Harbor Castle Hotel after a drunken “rookie shopping night” on January 16, 2015. At trial, Niznik was the only officer to take a stand. He insisted that sex was consensual. In 2017, the three were acquitted by Ontario Supreme Court Judge Anne Molloy after concluding that “it was simply not safe to be convicted” based on weaknesses and inconsistencies in the complainant’s history. Sorry, but this video failed to load. The disciplinary hearings against the three were also completed after the police officer of the parking lot said that he would not testify against them. The charges against the police service law were dropped and the police officers returned to their duties. With regard to the new charge of assault, none of the allegations against Kara have been substantiated in court. He is scheduled to appear in the Old Town Hall court on May 19. [email protected]
