Trans streamer Clara “Keffals” Sorrenti rose to prominence on Twitch as an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ issues in late February of this year, after Texas Governor George Abbott ordered the Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate parents of transgender children for child abuse. . Now Sorrenti says she’s been banned for a month because she tried, during a recent live stream, to show past examples of hateful abuse she’s received. “My account was massively reported before I even started and I’ve been banned from Twitch,” he tweeted on July 18. “I’ll be streaming on YouTube. You can’t stop me.” On Thursday, she announced that Twitch had rejected her appeal and the ban will remain in effect for 28 days. “Twitch has banned one of the biggest transgender streamers from their site for speaking out about the abuse they’ve been experiencing. they were accepting,” he wrote. “I don’t understand how they managed to screw up so badly. Sorrenti and Twitch did not immediately respond to a request for comment. According to Sorrenti, Twitch’s ban was for “repeated slander or hateful symbols.” She said the insults were in a thumbnail for the live stream and depicted previous comments made about her. Before the channel was suspended, the planned Twitch stream was ostensibly about how controversial political streamer Steven “Destiny” Bonnell allegedly weaponized his own fans and users on the Kiwi Farms hate forum to harass her. He is now re-editing this stream to appear on YouTube. As the Washington Post reported, Sorrenti has risen to popularity on Twitch by covering and debunking a new wave of right-wing attacks against transgender people and the queer community in general. By skewering everything from Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” school bill to conspiracies that the Uvalde, Texas school shooter was transgender, Sorretti has skewered conservatives and centrists and clashed with everyone from JK Rowling to subreddit r/Conservative. And of course, other political streamers like Bonnell. “I don’t think the politeness policy works when I’m dealing with people who don’t even see me as a person,” he told the Washington Post earlier this year. G/O Media may receive a commission Bonnell has been banned from Twitch multiple times and was permanently banned from the platform earlier this year after he tried to “discuss” white supremacist Nick Fuentes, who in turn was banned indefinitely in 2019. At the time , Bonnell also speculated that his indefinite ban may also be related to his transphobic views against transgender women competing in sports.
