The divers are a 46-year-old British man, a 14-year-old British man, an 18-year-old French woman and a 35-year-old Norwegian woman. The Malaysian Maritime Law Enforcement Agency said the four were ignored while diving on an island nine nautical miles (16.5 km) outside the coastal city of Mersing in the southern state of Johor. The search began shortly after the tourists disappeared on Wednesday afternoon before being stopped for the night due to poor visibility. Investigations resumed early Thursday. Malaysia reopened its border to foreigners on April 1 after being closed for more than two years during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Malaysian Immigration Department said more than 55,000 foreigners entered the country in the first four days after the border was opened.
