A mother and her two children were rescued and taken to hospital. The mother, aged 20, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. But her two children – a three-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy – were taken to hospital in critical condition.

Two children tragically lost their lives after a house fire at the Coronation Crescent in Preston around 8pm on Friday (April 8th) It has now been confirmed that the medical intervention was withdrawn yesterday (April 12) and unfortunately both children died. Lancashire police said a dossier would be sent to the medical examiner in due course.

A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of arson was initially released for questioning. He has now been released without further action.

Det Ch Insp Rach Higson, of the Force Major Research Group, said: “This tragic incident has resulted in two children sadly losing their lives and my thoughts, first and foremost, are with their loved ones right now.

“Our investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.”
