Sherry Xue Li and Lianbo Wang were arrested and charged in a New York court with conspiracy to defraud, conspiracy to launder money and conspiracy to defraud the United States as well as obstructing the laws of the Federal Election Commission. “We allege that Li and Wang promised investors green cards, access to political figures and dividends on their money. “Tens of millions of dollars poured in from investors and straw donors who expected their money to pay off,” FBI Assistant Director Michael Driscoll said of the case. Li and Wang, both naturalized American citizens, allegedly contributed money from their Chinese business contacts to Trump’s campaign in exchange for giving them access to the former president’s exclusive fundraising events.
