The list is long – you can see it in full here on the National Rail Enquiries website and we have outlined some of the notable sections from the site here:  LNER from King’s Cross “The extreme heat has caused major damage to the railway infrastructure on the LNER network. As a result of this, LNER are advising customers NOT TO TRAVEL today, Wednesday 20 July. “The route between London Kings Cross and Peterborough is currently closed and is expected to remain closed until at least 12:00 today. Once repairs are complete and the line does re-open, LNER will only then operate a reduced service for the remainder of the day.” Gatwick Express, Great Northern, Southern and Thameslink routes “Due to a number of incidents across the Great Northern and Thameslink network, train services running across these networks will be cancelled, delayed or revised. “Disruption is expected until approximately 12:00 today, Wednesday 20 July.” South Western Railway “There is a huge amount of work to do overnight to fix the problems with the track and overhead wires caused by the heat today. Network Rail teams will be working tirelessly throughout the night to make the repairs to get services back up and running for passengers, but it is likely there will still be some disruption in the morning. So for anyone travelling on Wednesday, please take time to check before you travel.” Avanti West Coast “There is severe damage to the overhead electric wires between Lancaster and Carlisle meaning all lines are currently blocked. Trains will be suspended in this area. We don’t yet have an estimate for when lines will reopen on this route. Further updates will be provided once we are given an estimate. “There is also severe damage to the overhead electric wires in the Birmingham New Street area meaning all lines are currently blocked. Trains in the affected area will be cancelled or diverted. We currently expect disruption until at least 13:00 in this area. “London Euston: Repair works are on-going in the Hatch End area following damage caused by fires yesterday. It is hoped that lines will reopen around the start of service today, however further updates will be provided once we have a more accurate reopening.”

The protest has caused nine-mile tailbacks on the M25 anti-clockwise and the National Highways website warns of delays of more than an hour. “There are delays of over an hour on the M25 anti-clockwise in Surrey due to an ongoing Surrey Police-led incident within J10 (for A3, Guildford). 3 lanes (of 4) are currently closed,” a travel alert said. “If this incident impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time as there is over 9 miles of congestion on approach. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.” One group of activists at junction 10 eastbound near Cobham, Surrey, said they will climb the gantries that support overhead motorway information signs. A Just Stop Oil spokesperson said: “The main thing is, we’ve just seen 40-degree temperatures, which have been predicted for decades. “Maybe it’s happening a bit faster, but it has just revealed how inadequate the government’s preparations for climate change are and their entire policy, and basically, we’re just saying, it’s evident now we cannot continue.”
