Courtesy of: Office of the President of Ukraine Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Tuesday the apparent arrest of Viktor Medvedchuk, a pro-Kremlin politician living in Ukraine. Medvenchuk was under house arrest on charges of treason last year, but reportedly escaped shortly after the Russian invasion began. His lawyers have denied the wrongdoing. “A special operation was carried out thanks to the SBU,” Zelensky wrote in Russian on his verified account on the social networking platform Telegram, referring to the Security Service of Ukraine. “Well done! Details later. Glory to Ukraine!” said Zelensky. Above this caption, Zelenskyy posted a photo showing a sloppy Medvedchuk sitting on a radiator with his hands handcuffed. Medvedchuk, the leader of a pro-Russian opposition party in Ukraine and a staunch opponent of Kiev’s calls for NATO membership, has extremely close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is the godfather of Medvedchuk’s daughter. Some experts speculate that if Putin had planned to install a puppet leader after the overthrow of the Ukrainian government, Medvedchuk would have been shortlisted. This is breaking news.
