Russia’s main goal now is to occupy parts of the eastern Donbass region that are not yet controlled by Moscow. In contrast to the first phase of the six-week conflict, this change forces Ukraine to give up conventional battles with tanks, artillery and aircraft at a level, often barren ground, that allows Russia to capitalize on its military equipment.
