Police are investigating a random assault on a visually impaired man. Vancouver police are searching for witnesses to the unprovoked attack that occurred at 11 a.m. on March 31 while crossing Thurlow and Alberni streets. “We do not know if there was a motive for this attack, but it seems that the victim had no previous interaction with the suspect before the attack,” said Const. Tanya Vishindin. “We also know that this can be very frustrating for the community when such incidents occur.” The 69-year-old victim was wearing a bright yellow jacket of high visibility and was walking with a cane when a stranger punched him in the stomach. The suspect fled the area before police arrived. The victim was not injured. “VPD investigators have identified a suspect, but they are still gathering evidence. “We need more witnesses to come forward.” Anyone with information is requested to call the investigators at 604-717-4021.
