Save Old Growth protesters blocked the bridge around 8:20 a.m., blocking traffic in both directions, but protests were brief as the road was cleared about 15 minutes later. In a statement issued by supporters of the old development early Wednesday morning, the group said action was coming as the provincial government had not yet acted to pass legislation to immediately end all old development logging in British Columbia. “This is part of an ongoing escalation in the demand for an end to the old growth record,” he said. “Above our dead bodies we will let the provincial government destroy the beautiful British Columbia. “We are trying to protect this country and province from social collapse, which is now locked in due to inaction on climate change,” said Julia Thorgerson, a spokeswoman for Save Old Growth. The action comes as four people were arrested on Monday morning after blocking the Blacksmiths’ Monument Second Narrow Passage. The group staged a wave of protests in January, which also resulted in the arrest of 54 people.
