The 41-year-old was imprisoned today (Friday) after he admitted that he caused the death from the dangerous driving of two small children, when his van was plowing on the stopped car of their family on their shoulder. Newman also admitted to driving under the influence of drugs and under the influence of alcohol and that he had been seriously injured by the dangerous driving of the children’s mother. The court heard Newman embarked on a three-hour journey from the East Midlands to South Wales on February 5. He had spent the previous afternoon drinking cans of Strongbow cider and taking cocaine and had “two hours” of sleep. Newman originally intended to work that day, but the court heard that he felt too “tired and tired” and instead decided to go behind the wheel and drive home. Check out some of the CCTV footage played on the pitch: Several other people on the M4 around Newport that day saw Newman’s “horrible” ride just minutes before the collision. Someone saw the white Transit “knitting across the road” near junction 24 and thought the driver was “either drunk or on his phone”. Another said Newman had closed his vehicle earlier as the speed limit was raised from 50 to 70 mph west of Newport. CCTV footage was shown in court of Newman’s crossing the Prince of Wales Bridge and traveling west to the point of impact near the Tredegar Park intersection. Newman was sentenced to nine years and four months in prison – the maximum sentence the judge could serve.
