In the aftermath of the fire, groom James Legget took to social media to say that the building caught fire before the ceremony with his future wife Amy.  He wrote on Twitter: “He did not * get * very * married, the place caught fire as I waited for the guests to come …”, and shared a photo of himself in his wedding dress, with the tobacco column in the History. 

However, she also thanked the fire brigade for its thoughtful actions as they rescued the items. He wrote: “Thank you very much for your efforts yesterday, the day was a complete whirlwind of emotions and when we heard the photos and the cake were recovered and then we saw the firefighters walking around the corner with her, it was simply indescribable. . In an update on their website, they wrote: “We would like to say a huge thank you to our incredible staff for their hard work and dedication today, to our visitors for their understanding and to the Avon fire and rescue team and police. for their rapid action. “We would also like to say a big thank you to Bristol Hotel, SS Great Britain and Bristol Old Vic for supporting our wedding party today.” The museum remains closed today, after solar panels on the roof of the building caught fire around 14:00. All staff and visitors inside We The Curious were evacuated safely when the alarm went off, but the building was damaged by fire and water, leaving them without telephone or email systems.
