The Hermits Peak fire, 12 miles northwest of Las Vegas, in New Mexico, increased by several hundred acres on Sunday and was estimated at 728 acres early Monday morning. A mapping flight on Sunday night had to be canceled due to heavy clouds. The southern third of the fire is held by a complete fire line. The rest is on very steep, rocky, rough ground. A Type 2 Event Management Team, Southwest Team 4 with Event Commander Aaron Hulburd, is due to take over Monday morning, April 11th. Voluntary evacuations were issued Sunday for three communities north and northeast of the fire: San Ignacio, Las Dispensas and Pendaries. Nearly all of New Mexico and much of central and southern plains are under red flag warning on Monday. In New Mexico it will be valid until at least Tuesday and a Fire Weather Watch has been released for Wednesday. Red flag warnings 11 April 2022 The Red Flag Warning predicts 20-foot winds from southwest to 25 to 35 mph with gusts of up to about 50 mph on Monday afternoon and Tuesday southwest to 30 to 45 mph with gusts of up to 65. Wednesday will bring northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of up to 45 in the afternoon. The relative humidity will range from 9 to 13 percent on Monday afternoon, 10 to 15 percent on Tuesday and 4 to 8 percent on Wednesday.
