These are the words of a young woman who posted a 53-second video on TikTok after being followed by a man in a truck who was then exposed and masturbated in front of her. The story was posted on social media by both the alleged victim and a woman who saw the aftermath and supported the stranger as he tried to get police to respond. More than 40,000 people have watched the young woman’s video.

“I called the police; no one came”

Both issued warnings to other women in similar situations. “I called the police, I waited 41 minutes, no one came,” said the victim, whom CBC News will identify as MJ. Calgary police say police met with the victim on Friday and “an investigation is under way.” “We understand that there are frustrations and recognize requests for more information about our response time in this case and are working to determine exactly what happened,” the CPS said in a statement. Based on the description of the incident by MJ, the man could face the charge of indecent act in public.

“He was completely undressed”

At around 4pm on Thursday, a man in a white truck followed MJ on Elbow Drive and Fourth Street SW, cutting alleys so he could pass in front of his pickup. In a quarter pass, MJ says he went out on the street next to her, went down to his window and tried to talk to her. MJ had her headphones on and did not know what she was saying, but said she could see his vehicle. “He was completely unloaded from the waist down and he was masturbating completely,” MJ said in her video. Across the street, Meaghan Walsh was sitting on a patio with her partner when she heard MJ screaming. He then spotted a white truck speeding away.

Woman calls 911

Walsh crossed the street. Until then, MJ was on the phone after calling 911. When there were breaks in the conversation, Walsh asked if she could stand with MJ, who put the conversation with the sender on the speaker. There was an immediate concern for safety that the truck would return, Walsh says. “It was very clear that someone was on the road,” he said of the message the women were receiving from the 911 pilot. About 20 minutes after the call, the sender asked if he could accept other calls, Walsh says.

It did not seem to me a priority

“I did not feel the situation was a priority,” Walsh said. “Men were walking around us and we were both bouncing, we were both on fire. So it was clear that we needed some help and after 41 minutes the policeman called her and said, ‘Is it okay if we do the PHONE again?’ ‘” The officer was condescending, Walsh says, and made it sound like it was MJ who was waiting for the police to show up. At that point, MJ says, she called a friend to pick her up. “Her girlfriend shows up in three minutes – faster response time from police,” said Walsh, who added that she was “so completely confused as to why this was not a priority.”

‘Do better’

Walsh says she tries to take into account women who walk alone, especially at night. “I really want to call on the Calgary Police to change the way they respond to these calls and just give them priority and make it better,” Walls said. CPS says it is looking into what happened during this 911 call. In her video on TikTok, MJ thanked Walsh. “Thanks to the sweet Meaghan girl who helped.”
