Police were first called around 7pm in connection with a collision in an apartment on Aylwin Street between Sherbrooke and Hochelaga streets. When ambulance crews arrived at the scene, they found the victim with at least one stab wound to the upper body, according to police. Police said on Friday night that she was in critical condition, but clarified on Saturday morning that her death was confirmed on the spot. Police found and arrested the suspect not far from the apartment. He was taken to hospital for a hand injury and was to be interviewed by investigators. “The suspect … will have to appear in court today on a murder charge,” said Manuel Couture, a spokesman for the Montreal Police (SPVM). Police were able to confirm the woman’s identity on Saturday morning, but did not release her name. The relationship between the victim and the suspect is not yet known. The SPVM set up a command post at the scene of the attack and investigators were still at the scene Saturday morning. The woman’s death is the fifth homicide in Montreal this year, according to police.
