The West Midlands Ambulance Service said it received several 999 calls that reported a collision with a car and a pedestrian around 4:40 p.m. Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, West Midlands CARE team doctors and a MERIT trauma doctor and an intensive care unit were present at the scene. A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “When the ambulance crews arrived, they found the pedestrian, a woman, in critical condition and immediately started advanced injury care working as a team to provide the best possible care. READ MORE: Live updates as police block Washwood Heath Road “Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the woman and her death was confirmed a little later.” Police closed Washwood Heath Street, and the incident was dealt with. Ambulances and police flooded the spot and the road was closed while searches were being carried out. Police later located an abandoned Volkwagen Golf nearby. A West Midlands police spokesman said: “We are investigating a hit and run on Washwood Heath Road. The female pedestrian was hit near the Mickleover Road intersection just before 4.40pm. “The road is closed for searches and we would ask you to avoid the area.
