Toronto police responded to a clash in the area of King Street and Spadina Avenue on Thursday around 3:15 p.m.
Police said a female pedestrian, believed to be in her 20s, was hit by a vehicle and rushed to a critical injury center.
Police have not yet identified the victim.
The vehicle, according to police, stopped shortly after the incident and then fled the scene.
“(The vehicle went) south and from what we understand at a high speed. So they left the area. “They knew exactly what happened and fled,” said the sergeant. Murray Campbell told reporters at the scene.
No suspicious driver information was provided.
Police, however, described the vehicle involved as a black Mercedes sedan with damage to the front.
“As you can see, there are some vehicle parts left on the spot here. “As part of our investigation, we will be monitoring vehicle parts to try to identify them,” Campbell said.
The southern lanes on Spantina Avenue closed early in the morning for the search, but have since reopened.
Police ask anyone with information or camera footage to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
