This is according to journalist Brad Sams, who said that Microsoft is currently reviewing the Xbox Series X | S chip during a recent Q&A on its personal YouTube channel. When a viewer asked if Microsoft was developing an improved chip for the console, Sams replied: “I think it’s accurate that Microsoft is working on a smaller, more efficient chip. I’m very sure of that. “ “You have to remember, while the console has been around for 18 months, the console that Microsoft initially started building was probably signed 14 or 12 months before it actually shipped,” he added. “Well, in the world of technology, it’s an obsolete design.” As for the new features that the chip will introduce, Sams suggested that hardware improvements are likely to be limited, but not entirely unnecessary. “Now, will we see performance improvements, will we see something else? Do not believe. “But Microsoft is always working to make cooler, more efficient chips because it reduces production costs.”

More power, for less

It should come as no surprise that Microsoft is developing an improved chip for the Xbox Series X. As Sams points out, the tech giant will always repeat its hardware designs for the sake of reducing costs. We have already seen Sony change the PS5 heatsink for a more economical design. While this latest iteration may not make major changes to the console, it will definitely bring some improvements for new Xbox Series X | S owners. A more efficient chip means the console will draw less power, allowing it to run cooler and possibly quieter. This may seem trivial, but anyone who has looked at the back of their Xbox and seen layers of dust clogging their vents will be grateful that hardware manufacturers take such issues into account. For more radical performance changes, we’ll have to wait until a new and improved Xbox Series X is released somewhere on the line. Microsoft will almost certainly release an upgraded version of the console, such as the Xbox One X and Sony released the PS4 Pro. But this will introduce bigger changes than a new chip. We would expect to see extensive SSD storage, better GPU and more memory. The Xbox Series X is still in the early stages of its life cycle and combined with the continuing lack of a chip that has prevented its absorption, we would not expect a major new release to be released soon. For now, expect to see chip upgrades like this appear on the horizon.
