Police said Wednesday that officers responded to a “significant” number of robberies that began in June along Jane Street near the popular amusement park. Some of the incidents also occurred in nearby squares and sidewalks, police said in a news release. In all the incidents, police said the victims reported being picked up and robbed by a large group of youths in the evening hours. During a sting on June 11, police said a man approached a group of teenagers demanding alcohol, cigarettes and the victim’s food. A crowd of teenagers followed the man to his car and then began kicking and hitting the vehicle, police said. A teenager then allegedly opened the back door and stole the man’s food, and when the man chased after the teenagers, police said his wallet was stolen.
