Spotify said in a blog post on Tuesday, “Spotify Live can now be found as much as the standalone listeners and hosts know and love, as well as a live streaming feature on Spotify with your favorite music and podcasts. “Listeners will be able to tune in to live streaming on Spotify via the creator’s podcast or artist page, and if they want to join the conversation or join the host on stage, they can go to Spotify Live to do so.” XDA-VIDEO PROGRAMMERS OF THE DAY The new functionality comes from the acquisition of Betty Labs by Spotify in March 2021, which at the time was developing an application similar to Clubhouse / Twitter Spaces for sports fans called the Locker Room. The app was converted to “Greenroom”, which expanded the scope of sports and updated the design to better match Spotify. Today’s announcement marks the second name change, and most importantly, the functionality that reaches the standard Spotify app. Spotify only allows live audio for “initial programming option” in the main Spotify app at this time, possibly to minimize spam to the already full app. The first wave of scheduled soundtracks on Live includes After Hours With Alex Cooper, King of the Court With Hasan Minhaj, a live DJ set by the Swedish House Mafia for the release of the band’s new album and other content. The existing Spotify Live app (formerly Greenroom and Locker Room) is available, at least for now, to anyone who has not been invited to come out live on the main Spotify app.
